Fifty Years of Warrior Baseball

Before the start of the Oconee County baseball game last Friday at Arrowhead Park, the 1957 baseball team was introduced to the crowd. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first baseball team at Oconee County High School. Introduced to the crowd were Pete Burger, Mack Caldwell, Donald Carson, Gene Crawford, Milton Crawford, Buster Eades, Verlyn Hammond, Bobby Porterfield and JA Peck. Country singer John Berry sang the national anthem before the game, and the Warriors defeated Apalachee 10-5.

Class of 61 holds 45th Reunion at Watkinsville Community Center

The Class of 1961 was the first graduating class to attend grades 8-12 after all county schools were combined to create Oconee County High School.

Thirty two classmates and fourteen spouses attended a blast from the past and retrieved long forgotten memories as Oconee High School Class of 1961 celebrated their 45th reunion at the Watkinsville, GA Community Center (July 15, 2006). OCHS 1961 graduated fifty-nine and Thirty-two responded when the Class roll was called by Jimmy E. Thomas, Class Vice-President.

A moment of silence was taken to remember the deceased classmates:
Wyverlyn MARSHALL (Peck), Fred Wayne DICKENS, Walter Harold THOMAS, Terry DAWSON, Billy WHEELER.

An excellent meal and finger food, commenced the night as "old friends" relived memories and renewed friendships. Rock and roll decorations including stand up Elvis posters and juke box, along with picture directory, picture name badges, posters, scrapbooks, name that tune, and trivia questions served to make this celebration one to remember.

Joan Anderson Mann presented “Name That Tune” songs and Gwen Christopher Greenway presented trivia from the old school newspaper “Smoke Signal”.
